Metaphase

Intricate and complex syncopation and polyrhythms characterize one part of veteran DJ and producer Metaphase’s dark and dirty drum and bass and dub step music, while lyrical melodies, and flowing and contrasting contours and textures characterize another. Often, soulful world and jazz flavors color this music as well.

Frankie Bernstein (Metaphase) studied music composition and percussion performance at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) with Swappan Chaudhuri, Randy Gloss, David Johnson, Art Jarvenin, and Ann Lebaron.

A multi-instrumentalist, Metaphase plays North Indian Percussion (Tabla & Kanjira), Drumset , Keys, and Hand Percussion (Tar/Frame Drum/Cajon/Congas).

Metaphase has also written compositions for acoustic ensembles such as String Quartet , Voice and Live Electronics, and Percussion Ensembles, and he has provided Sound Design, Audio Engineering, and Composition for Film, as well.

He has produced numerous Vinyl and Digital releases with labels such as Satya Dharma Music, Rogue Dubs, DesignForms, Bassment Projexx, among many others, and has performed and recorded with Temple Of Truth. His tracks are heard in D’n'B and Dub Step clubs around the world.

His 2010 release, “Firmament Illuminations,” takes the sound of his Drum and Bass and Dub Step tracks and pushes their boundaries far and wide, carrying them into a world that is experimental, ethereal, and traverses IDM territory, while still making us move.
